GCHQ is offering you an exciting opportunity to develop and use your analytical skills by joining us as an Operational Data Scientist.
As one of Britain’s intelligence agencies, we unlock the complex world of communications to keep our nation safe. We work closely with MI5 and MI6, our partners in the intelligence community, to safeguard Britain’s people, interests and businesses from various threats. Think cyber-attacks, espionage, terrorism, and organised crime. It’s challenging, varied and meaningful work that you simply won’t find anywhere else.
As an Operational Data Scientist, you’ll work either in our central data science hub or in one of our core operational analysis teams. Either way, you’ll directly support our intelligence analyst community with some of the hardest problems they face. Our Data Scientists use big data technologies and their data mining skills to analyse mission problems, build tools, techniques and visualisations that influence operational decisions. Whether pioneering new analytic capabilities against high tempo operational problems, exploring unfamiliar data sets, or solving strategic analytic challenges, your work will help protect our nation.
While the role is challenging, our flexible working policy ensures a healthy work-life balance. Wherever possible, we look to accommodate reduced hours or job share options balanced against business needs.
We’re looking for individuals from all backgrounds who enjoy problem solving and have either a 2:2 degree or above, in a relevant subject (Science, Programming, Maths, Statistics, Data analysis), OR at least 2 year’s relevant work experience using large scale data programming languages and analysing large data volumes. You’ll also need to be proficient in data analysis.
