IT Change Manager (Graduate)

Having a long-term career is important to me, and it’s one of the main reasons I applied for this role. I know that if I work hard here, my prospects are good – and that’s comforting to know. The time between my application and job offer was quick and I was fairly well-informed. The vetting process leaves you a little in the dark though. But the vetting officer made me feel at ease and was easy to talk to. I didn’t feel too uncomfortable going through the process. After I was given a start date, everything went pretty quickly. I found myself working in a very friendly atmosphere, with people who were happy to help and offer support. The induction process for new starters is good. You get to hear a lot about all the different areas within the business. Okay, so there’s a little ‘information overload’, but it’s an eye opener to everything we do. It’s also spread over a few months, so you’re eased in gently. On top of this, there are always opportunities to attend training, whether web based or in the classroom. There are shadowing sessions too, which might involve people at the same grade as you or members of senior management. Understanding the impact that different business areas have on each other – that’s got to be one of the most challenging things. There’s a lot of people to meet and get to know. Making good contacts can take time, but it’s very worthwhile. It surprised me just how much people are encouraged to develop, if that’s what they want to do. After I showed an interest in working towards a higher grade, my management team were quick to create a plan for me to work to. Another unexpected thing was that it’s more relaxed than I thought it would be, and certainly not as regimental. You’ve got a great diversity of people working here too.
