Our diverse project environment will not only test and develop the full extent of your skills, but will also expose you to new and interesting challenges.
We’re a project-led business, and the nature of our work means you’ll be involved in a wide range of projects. For example, you might be dealing with signals intelligence, or helping us to understand threats to the UK. Alternatively, you could lead projects that enable us to take advantage of opportunities in cyberspace, or to support our role as the UK’s National Technical Authority for Information Assurance. In fact, you’ll lead a range of projects to plan and deliver requirements for a wide range of stakeholders.
As our work continues to evolve, so will the scope and scale of the projects you work on. This means you’ll be managing a huge variety of projects – many of them involving complex technical requirements – through the full lifecycle, from initiation to closure. In fact, it’s almost certain that you won’t manage the same kind of project more than once.
As well as the support of our experienced project management community, you’ll also enjoy the chance to further your professional qualifications through our development framework. This includes a combination of classroom training and e-learning, as well as the support of experienced mentors. We have also achieved corporate accreditation to the Association of Project Managers (APM) and sponsor all our Project Managers to gain PRINCE2 Practitioner status.Project Management roles
As a Project Manager here, you’ll be managing a variety of large-scale projects, building and motivating highly skilled teams and developing solutions that enable us to continue fulfilling our mission.
You’ll ideally have knowledge of PRINCE2 or equivalent, as well as Agile and tactical delivery methods. You’ll also need the ability to manage customer relationships and translate needs into requirement specifications. A natural leader and strong communicator, you’ll enjoy the opportunity to work on a range of projects that will extend and challenge your skills. With the commitment to deliver projects on time and within budget, you’ll also have the ability to adapt to different methodologies to meet evolving needs.
You’ll be working on a full range of often complex projects and dealing with teams across GCHQ. There may also be opportunities for you to work with some of our external partners. This means for some of our roles a background in technical or engineering projects would be an advantage. But if you’re a strong project manager from another industry, we’ll give you all the support and training you need to make a significant contribution.
Project Support Officers (PSOs) play a central role in GCHQ’s Programme Management Office (PMO). The nature and diversity of projects at GCHQ provides the PSOs with great opportunities both on a day to day basis and for their careers. There is plenty of variety and scope to use your skills and gain new knowledge and experiences whilst contributing both to the GCHQ mission and the Project Management profession.
PSOs have varying levels of seniority and responsibilities but all roles will cover financial management, planning, risk and issue management, project assurance and monthly reporting. The senior roles will also cover stakeholder and staff management and will already have a good knowledge of project methodologies such as PRINCE2.
GCHQ will provide you with ample training opportunities and we have a wealth of experience to draw upon. If you are a good team player, have good organisational and people skills then come and join the PMO at GCHQ.
